Middle East University Faculty of Media holds advisory council meeting with leading media figures to reposition education and its philosophy in line with rapid changes in media sector, particularly rise of artificial intelligence, shifts in production and consumption patterns, and cross-border digital platforms.
Meeting attended by University Board of Trustees Chair Dr Yaqub Nasereddin, University President Prof Salam Al Mahadin, and Faculty Dean Dr Ramez Abu Hseira. Discussions focus on future of media education, deep challenges facing profession, and ways to develop academic programmes to become more flexible and innovative, capable of graduating journalists with critical thinking skills, mastery of digital tools, and responsible engagement with AI technologies and ethics.
Dr Nasereddin says university aims to entrench Faculty of Media as leading institution investing in education quality, talent attraction, and academic environment development in step with major transformations in media industry.
Prof Al Mahadin says Faculty of Media represents strategic pillar in university mission, stressing media as tool to build awareness, shape responsible public opinion, and reinforce professional and ethical values.
Council issues key recommendations, including updating curricula to match accelerating digital developments, integrating AI applications into media education, strengthening critical thinking, fact-checking, and solutions journalism skills, expanding partnerships with media institutions, and intensifying practical training to ensure graduate readiness for competitive labour market.
Council also discusses ethical and professional challenges facing journalists amid fast information flows, political and economic pressures, and spread of misinformation, stressing importance of anchoring professional ethics and setting clear admission criteria to attract students with awareness, passion, and social responsibility.
Meeting includes in-depth dialogue with media students, reflecting strong interest in digital transformation, content creation, and AI in media, reinforcing student participation in shaping future visions of media education.
Participants include former Minister of State for Media Affairs Eng Sakhr Dudin and former Minister of Culture Haifa Al Najjar, alongside representatives from media institutions and outlets including Media Commission, Journalists Syndicate, Jordan TV, Government Communication Ministry, Amman TV, Petra News Agency, Royal Film Commission, Al Mamlaka TV, Al Ghad, Al Dستور, Jordan Times, Telescope Media Group, Hayat FM, Ain TV, Al Hadath Plus, and local community representatives.
