Government to replace 15,000 unsafe heaters for eligible families

Within social protection framework and as part of Safe Winter campaign launched at start of winter season, Cabinet decides to task Ministry of Social Development with replacing 15,000 unsafe heaters with safe alternatives for eligible families and to allocate required funds. Distribution to take place through Social Development centres in governorates and Tkiyet Um Ali.
Decision comes as continuation of efforts by Ministry of Social Development and relevant ministries carried out every winter through various initiatives and programmes to support eligible families.
Cabinet also discusses progress of procedures to disburse financial assistance to families affected by weather conditions, in line with criteria and foundations set by Ministries of Social Development/National Aid Fund, Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, and Agriculture.
Cabinet directs completion of financial allocations for affected families and disbursement after relevant ministries complete identification process following submission of applications. Disbursement to continue successively, including compensation for lands damaged by landslides in Marj area in Karak governorate, funded from emergency expenditures item in current year general budget.
Relevant ministries have already paid compensation to more than 120 families in affected areas so far and will continue to do so for additional eligible families in coming days until full disbursement of allocated amounts.
Study also under way to compensate another group of families whose homes were damaged by weather conditions and heavy rainfall, with damage value being assessed to pay compensation according to approved rules and instructions.
