RSV is an RNA virus from the Paramyxoviridae family, affecting upper and lower respiratory tracts. Infection can range from mild cold-like symptoms to severe illness, particularly in infants whose immune systems and airways are still developing. Adults can also be infected multiple times, sometimes twice a year, usually with mild symptoms, except adults over 65 or those with weakened immunity who risk severe disease.
