Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi affirmed Tuesday that focusing on the war with Iran and its repercussions must not lead to overlooking the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza Strip. He stressed the importance of advancing implementation of the plan proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding Gaza.
Safadi also emphasized the need for the international community to recognize the seriousness of what he described as illegal Israeli measures in the occupied West Bank, warning that Israel continues efforts to annex the territory and undermine prospects for a two-state solution, which he described as the only path to achieving a just peace.
In calls with several counterparts, Safadi warned of the consequences of Israel’s continued restrictions on freedom of worship and preventing worshippers from accessing the Al-Aqsa Mosque during the holy month of Ramadan, calling it a clear violation of international law and Israel’s obligations as an occupying power.
During separate phone discussions with Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, and Romanian Foreign Minister Oana Țoiu, Safadi reiterated Jordan’s condemnation of Iranian attacks on its territory and on Gulf Cooperation Council states.
He affirmed Jordan’s solidarity with Gulf countries in any measures they take to protect their citizens, security, stability, sovereignty, and their legitimate right to self-defense.
Safadi also warned of the dangers of widening regional escalation and stressed the need to restore calm in Lebanon, reaffirming Jordan’s firm position in supporting the Lebanese government’s efforts to safeguard its security and sovereignty and activate its institutions.
In a call he received from the Ukrainian foreign minister, Safadi reiterated Jordan’s consistent position on the need to respect international law and state sovereignty, and its support for efforts to reach a resolution to the war on Ukraine based on principles that guarantee its sovereignty and territorial integrity in accordance with international law, in a manner that promotes stability and protects the legitimate rights of all parties.
The foreign ministers of Brazil, Ukraine, and Romania expressed their solidarity with Jordan.
