Tehran - Iranian Minister of Sports announced that his country's national team will be unable to participate in the World Cup given the security conditions Iran is currently experiencing.
This decision comes in light of current internal circumstances that do not allow participation in the global event under any circumstances, effectively meaning the withdrawal of the Iranian team from the upcoming tournament.
Should the Iranian withdrawal be officially confirmed, questions have begun to arise regarding which team will succeed them in the tournament. Eyes are turning toward decisions FIFA may take regarding the mechanism for replacing the seat, whether by granting it to a team from the same continent or according to qualification rankings.
