Minister of Culture Mustafa Al-Rawashdeh sponsored the activities of the Middle East Short Film Festival, in the presence of the University President, Professor Salam Al-Mahadin, alongside a selection of artists, directors, producers, and media professionals, as well as members of the teaching and administrative staff, and university students.
Al-Rawashdeh stated in a speech that short films are one of the visual expression forms most capable of reaching the audience and influencing their awareness due to their narrative density and ability to condense human and national ideas and issues in a contemporary artistic language. He pointed to the importance of employing art and cinema in enhancing the Jordanian narrative and highlighting the story of the Jordanian state, its achievements, and its cultural and national identity, contributing to conveying Jordan's image, values, and history to new generations and to the world in an influential, creative, and cross-border language.
For his part, the Dean of the Faculty of Media, Dr. Ramez Abu Hasira, indicated in his opening speech that the rapid transformations witnessed by the media and content creation sector have made real value lie in possessing vision and the ability to manufacture meaning, stressing that visual storytelling has become one of the most important tools for understanding and influencing the world.
From his side, media professional Professor Dr. Hani Al-Badri pointed out that the most dangerous challenge societies face today is the abundance of content devoid of meaning, adding that conscious cinema represents the first line of cultural defense against vulgarity and superficiality.
At the conclusion of the festival, the competition results were announced. The film "Kifak Enta" from Yarmouk University, by directors Jana Al-Hawارين and Anas Al-Khalaileh, won the Best Film award. Meanwhile, the Best Cinematography award went jointly to the film "Fi Al-Jaibah Hakaya Sayyad" from Petra University by directors Omar Abu Eid and Hamza Al-Bastanji, and the film "Dajej Al-Samt" from the Applied Science Private University by directors Abdullah Bassem and Malaz Moati.
Furthermore, the film "So'al Akheer" from Zarqa University, by directors Mohammad Al-Tamimi and Ayham Al-Am, garnered the Best Editing award, while student Alaa Abu Kishk from the Middle East University won the Best Directing award for the film "Al-Talaq".
The festival comes within the framework of Middle East University's keenness to consolidate the role of visual storytelling as a cultural and cognitive tool that contributes to building awareness and creating impact.
