Amman — Egyptian star Mohamed Salah is closing in on a free transfer to Turkey's Beşiktaş during the current summer transfer window, after the two sides reached a preliminary agreement.
Salah recently wrapped up his time at Liverpool after nine seasons at Anfield, during which he won every domestic and continental trophy on offer, set numerous records, and picked up multiple individual awards — cementing his place as one of the most important players in the English club's history.
According to sports journalist Nicolo Schira, posting on X, a preliminary deal has been reached for a contract running through summer 2027, under which Salah would earn an annual salary of €12 million, with a clause allowing both sides the option to extend the deal through summer 2028.
Schira noted that Beşiktaş's management is highly optimistic the deal will be finalized within the next few days, as head coach Vincenzo Italiano continues pushing to seal the signing of Egypt's national team captain.
He added that Beşiktaş's front office is currently working out the final details before an official announcement, with the move expected to be completed in the coming days.
While several Saudi Pro League clubs had shown interest in signing Salah in recent months, reports indicate Turkey has emerged as the more likely destination, given the player's desire to continue his career in European football — a factor that tipped the scales in Beşiktaş's favor despite lucrative offers from Saudi Arabia.
Beşiktaş president Serdal Adalı confirmed to Turkish outlet Ortacizgi that a formal offer has already been submitted to Salah and his agent, saying the club presented its final official offer to the player's representatives and made clear it expects a response soon.
He added that the club evaluated all the increases and adjustments needed to serve Beşiktaş's interests before submitting its final offer, and that the decision now rests with the player, who has been told to respond as soon as possible.
Earlier Turkish reports indicated that Beşiktaş's management is fully focused on completing the signing of Mohamed Salah.
