Inspection teams from the Jordan Food and Drug Administration, working with relevant security agencies, seized a quantity of hormonal injections, steroids and unlicensed medications from two vehicles belonging to fitness trainers.
JFDA Director-General Rana Obeidat said in a press statement that the seizure came during an inspection campaign targeting a fitness center in Amman, which included a formal search of both vehicles. She noted this is the third center where violations have been uncovered as part of the agency's ongoing crackdown on the illicit trade in hormones and peptides.
She said all seized materials were properly secured, with the necessary legal measures taken and coordination carried out with security agencies; those involved were referred to the relevant police station ahead of appearing before the competent public prosecutor.
She said some of the seized substances — including Drostanolone, Nandrolone, Oxandrolone, Fluoxymesterone and Stanozolol — fall under anabolic-androgenic steroids, commonly misused in bodybuilding to increase muscle mass, strength and physical performance, while Sustanon contains a blend of testosterone esters.
The agency noted that Clenbuterol stimulates beta-adrenergic receptors and is misused for fat loss, while Thyroxine, a thyroid hormone that directly affects metabolism, is misused for weight loss or to raise metabolic rate.
The JFDA warned of the dangers of unsupervised or improper use of hormones and anabolic steroids, which can disrupt the body's natural hormonal balance, suppress natural testosterone production, cause fertility problems, raise blood pressure, disrupt lipid levels, and increase the risk of cardiovascular complications and liver dysfunction, alongside possible psychological and mood-related effects.
