With the kickoff of the Pro League matches today, Thursday, the summit clash between Al-Wehdat and Al-Faisaly stands as a heavy-weight opening act between the two title contenders, alongside Al-Hussein, winner of the past three titles.
Retaliation
Following its loss in the Super Cup semi-finals against traditional rival Al-Faisaly by two goals to one, the Green Giant seeks "retaliation," meaning it is now tasked with defeating Al-Faisaly to satisfy its massive fanbase, especially after bolstering the squad with distinguished names.
Waseem Al-Bzoor, the man in whom Al-Wehdat's management and fans placed their trust since his arrival to the Green Giant, now faces the moment to return the favor with a victory that restores Al-Wehdat to the forefront and gives the players a "tremendous" morale boost at the start of the league campaign.
A New Blue Derby Victory
The Super Cup champion seeks to continue its winning streak, which began with Al-Wehdat and concluded with Al-Hussein. Should it secure victory this time against Al-Wehdat, stopping Al-Faisaly will prove difficult, particularly with the arrival of new foreign professionals and recently joined local players.
Tarek Moustafa has come to memorize his players and their capabilities inside out; after all, he was the one who deployed Ehsan Haddad at center-back in the Super Cup final following the suspension of Mohannad Khairullah, who received a red card against Al-Wehdat. However, he must beware of Al-Wehdat this time, as it is not the same opponent he faced in the Super Cup semi-finals.
Points on the i's
On every Derby night, the green and blue fans are the ones who add a special flavor to the summit match. Al-Faisaly's supporters do not quiet down in the stands, and Al-Wehdat's fans cannot see the green color and stand idly by.
So, will Amman be lit up in green or blue?
