National team head coach Badou Zaki, of Morocco, said Wednesday that changes to the Nashama (Jordan national team) squad will come gradually, noting the selected names were chosen after closely tracking players' form and the number of matches they've played.
Speaking on the sidelines of the press conference announcing the national team's squad for its upcoming matches against Syria and Venezuela, Zaki explained that the coaching staff received several call-up requests from various federations, and that some names were chosen with the aim of diversifying footballing backgrounds and gaining broader experience.
He said the competition among the players named in the squad will a healthy sense of rivalry, stressing that age was not a primary factor in team selection, with the squad blending experience and youth based on the technical levels the coaching staff has been tracking.
Asked how the team plans to cover for the absence of striker Yazan Al-Naimat, Zaki said the national team is looking for a player with the right profile for that position, explaining the squad already includes names capable of filling the role, while the coaching staff continues to monitor a number of players both inside and outside Jordan to settle on the right choice.
Zaki revealed the coaching staff had tried to call up Yousef Saleh, but the player's club commitments made that impossible, while confirming that Al-Awadat is a standout player currently on the waiting list.
The Nashama's head coach stressed that this work is ongoing, with the goal of reaching a balanced mix of experienced and young players that gives the national team multiple options across different positions.
