Portuguese manager Jorge Jesus, the new head coach of the Portugal national team, has announced his first squad ahead of upcoming UEFA Nations League matches, featuring team captain Cristiano Ronaldo.
The 25-man roster is led by Ronaldo alongside several prominent Portuguese stars, including Bruno Fernandes, Bernardo Silva, Rafael Leão, Vitinha, João Neves, and João Félix.
Jorge Jesus's selection marks the start of a new era for the Portuguese national team following the departure of Spanish manager Roberto Martínez after the 2026 World Cup.
The squad includes several changes compared to Portugal's World Cup roster. Jesus has called up goalkeeper Samuel Soares, defender Nuno Tavares, midfielder João Palhinha, and forward Fábio Silva, while several players from the World Cup squad were omitted, including Nélson Semedo, Matheus Nunes, Samu Costa, and Gonçalo Guedes.
Following Portugal's exit from the 2026 World Cup against Spain, Ronaldo confirmed that the tournament was his final World Cup appearance, though he left the door open regarding his international future, noting he would take time to consider his decision.
Portugal is preparing to face Wales on September 24, followed by fixtures against Norway and Denmark in the UEFA Nations League.
