The Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission, Captain Dheifallah Al-Farajat, announced the resumption of regular flights by European airlines to and from Jordan, in a step reflecting the recovery of international air traffic in the Kingdom.
He stated that Hungarian carrier Wizz Air will inaugurate the return of European flights by operating its first flight to Queen Alia International Airport starting Tuesday, September 22, at a rate of two flights per week following an interruption that lasted several months.
He explained that the first flight will arrive with a high passenger load factor, reflecting strong demand for travel to Jordan and supporting both tourism and trade activity.
Wizz Air will be followed by Ryanair, which is scheduled to resume operations at the end of next October, connecting Jordan to four major European destinations. This move will help expand the air connectivity network and provide diverse, low-cost travel options.
Al-Farajat noted that the return of European carriers is the result of technical negotiations led by the commission with the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). These efforts led to removing Jordan from the Conflict Zone Information Bulletin issued periodically by the agency and lifting its advisory against flying to Jordan, replacing it with standard pre-operational risk assessments.
He reaffirmed the commission's commitment to continued coordination with international partners and global airlines to maintain the highest aviation safety and security standards, while attracting additional international carriers to the Kingdom's airports in the coming period.
Last August, EASA canceled its previous recommendation advising airlines to avoid Jordanian airspace, though it advised operators to exercise caution until September 30.
