The national team's medical staff announced that goalkeeper Alec Samir has suffered a partial tear of his knee's medial collateral ligament, sidelining him from the Nashama camp to receive treatment and rehabilitation, in coordination between the national team's medical staff and his club.
The medial collateral ligament is one of the key ligaments stabilizing the knee joint, sitting on its inner side and helping limit abnormal sideways movement of the knee.
Since Samir's diagnosis points to a partial tear, that means some of the ligament's fibers have torn without the ligament being completely severed, with the severity of the injury and its impact on knee stability varying from case to case.
Recovery time typically ranges from three to six weeks, and can extend to eight weeks depending on the severity of the tear and how the player responds to treatment. Partial tears like this one usually still require several weeks of rehabilitation, and no precise return date can be set for Samir until the severity of the injury and his response to the treatment program become clearer.
The goalkeeper is expected to undergo a treatment and rehabilitation program over the coming period, with the medical staff to determine his return to training and match play based on how his condition progresses.
The key point with injuries like this is that a safe return depends not just on a set amount of time passing, but on the knee's readiness and the player's ability to meet the physical demands of his position without pain or instability.
