The total number of returned checks in Jordan during the past year reached 220.7 thousand checks, representing 3.2% of the total number of checks in circulation.
According to statistics monitored by the report of the Jordanian Payment and Clearing Systems Company (JoPACC), which reached the Kingdom, the total value of returned checks in Jordan last year amounted to 1.37 billion Jordanian dinars. It represents 3.4% of the total value of the checks.
The report indicated that last year witnessed an increase in the number of returned checks by 4.4%, while their value increased by 7.8% compared to the year 2022, while the average value of a check returned due to insufficient balance reached 6,342.3 Jordanian dinars last year.
Returned checks due to insufficient balance constituted 65.9% of the total number of returned checks last year and 67.2% of their value.
Regarding the checks in circulation last year, the number of checks in circulation reached 3.86 million checks, worth 40.99 billion Jordanian dinars, with an average value of 5,975 Jordanian dinars.
Last year witnessed an increase in the number of checks in circulation by 2.5%, accompanied by a slight increase in their value by 0.4%, while the average value of checks witnessed a slight growth of 1% last year compared to 2022.
The report indicated that the past three years witnessed a similarity in the pattern of use of checks. The number of checks in circulation was characterized by a decrease in the months of April, June and September, which was offset by an increase in the number of checks in circulation in March and May.
