The First Deputy Speaker of the Senate, Samir Al-Rifai, described the second centennial of the Jordanian state as the “Youth Centennial,” where they will be prepared for the world of tomorrow within a comprehensive modernization plan led by His Majesty King Abdullah II.
Al-Rifai confirmed, during a dialogue session on the modernization of the political system within the activities of the Youth Dialogue Conference that launched today, Monday, in the Dead Sea area, Jordan’s determination under the leadership of His Majesty the King to modernize, and to give youth and women their deserved opportunities and roles, calling on the youth to engage in political life, and to be aware that they are the largest and most influential bloc, and to elevate the edifice of the nation, as their responsibility is great before their country and before His Majesty King Abdullah II and His Royal Highness Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II, the Crown Prince.
He said that the upcoming elections are the first phase of an ongoing, gradual, and cumulative process to reach a solid party culture and popular bases, and it is not just a race to obtain advanced positions with immediate promises that are impossible to implement, relying on the mobilization of numbers without intellectual support and an actual program.
Al-Rifai emphasized that the success of the political modernization project and the transition to programmatic party parliamentary councils is not measured by the number of parties and their members, as party membership constitutes only between 2 and 4 percent of the voters in established democracies, but rather by the presence of these parties, their influence, and their ability to convince voters of their programs and implement them.
He pointed out that today, youth have a great opportunity that may not be repeated in many of our lives, and that they are the most capable of keeping pace with change and development, indicating that the next few years will bring great opportunities for youth, not only on an individual level but also the opportunity for change in the country politically, socially, and culturally as His Majesty the King desires.
The Prime Minister, the representative of His Royal Highness the Crown Prince, inaugurated today the activities of the Youth Dialogue Conference organized by the Youth Dialogue Committee in the Senate, which will last for three days.
