His Majesty warned during his meeting with U.S. President Joe Biden at the White House that the Israeli attack on Rafah, to which about 1.4 million people have been displaced due to the war on Gaza, threatens to cause a new massacre.
His Majesty alerted to the consequences of any Israeli incursion into Rafah, which could lead to an expansion of the conflict in the region.
His Majesty also affirmed the importance of supporting all efforts aimed at an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
His Majesty the King and the U.S. President committed to working towards a sustainable ceasefire in Gaza, emphasizing the importance of facilitating the delivery of humanitarian aid to the sector and its sustainability in light of the urgent need for it.
The U.S. President thanked His Majesty the King for Jordan’s leadership role in the efforts to provide aid to Gaza.
President Biden also appreciated Jordan’s efforts in working towards peace and stability in the region.
His Majesty stressed the need to protect civilians in Gaza, reiterating Jordan’s rejection of any attempts to displace Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza, and attempts to separate them.
His Majesty the King emphasized the need to stop the violence of extremist settlers against Palestinians in the West Bank, warning of the continued violations of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.
The leaders affirmed the necessity of avoiding an escalation of conflict in the Middle East and their commitment to achieving a just and lasting peace.
In this context, His Majesty the King reiterated the necessity for the Palestinian people to obtain all their legitimate rights, and the establishment of their independent, sovereign state on the lines of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on the two-state solution.
His Majesty also affirmed the important role of the United States in pushing for a political horizon to achieve a just and comprehensive peace.
His Majesty the King pointed to the importance of the international community’s continued support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) to enable it to perform its vital role according to its UN mandate.
The meeting addressed bilateral relations; the leaders referred to the partnership and friendship between the two countries that has spanned 75 years.
His Majesty appreciated the support provided by the United States to Jordan in several sectors.
President Biden confirmed the United States’ steadfast support for Jordan and the Jordanian people, congratulating His Majesty the King on the twenty-fifth anniversary of his accession to constitutional powers.
The meeting was attended by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, and the Director of His Majesty’s Office, Jafar Hassan.
