Amman – March 23, 2025 – Royal Jordanian Airlines conducted a trial flight to Aleppo International Airport on Sunday in preparation for resuming flights to the city after a 14-year hiatus.
This move follows the recent rehabilitation and reopening of Aleppo International Airport last week.
Royal Jordanian CEO Samer Majali stated that the airline is the first international carrier to land at Aleppo Airport. He explained that the trial flight carried a delegation from Royal Jordanian, Jordanian Civil Aviation, and other relevant officials to assess the airport’s readiness.
Majali confirmed that if all necessary preparations are completed, regular flights to Aleppo will commence next month.
Last month, Royal Jordanian resumed flights to Damascus International Airport, currently operating 11 weekly flights.
Haitham Misto, Chairman of the Jordanian Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission, announced that another trial flight to Aleppo Airport will take place in the coming days to conduct a comprehensive safety and security assessment before making a final decision on launching regular flights between Jordan and Syria.
Misto previously stated that a Jordanian technical team would accompany the trial flight to conduct an evaluation of Aleppo Airport’s security and operational conditions.
Royal Jordanian had officially requested permission from the Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission to operate flights to Aleppo after previously receiving approval to resume flights to Damascus.
The Syrian Civil Aviation Authority recently announced the reopening of Aleppo International Airport for air traffic starting March 18, stating that the airport is now fully equipped to receive flights and welcoming airlines interested in operating routes to and from Aleppo.
Jordan’s Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission had earlier permitted Jordanian airlines to resume flights to Damascus following a thorough assessment of Damascus International Airport and Syrian airspace.
