Amman – Executive programme report for Economic Modernisation Vision shows progress on National Water Carrier project to desalinate and transfer water from Aqaba to Amman during first half of 2025.
Report says Cabinet approved project commitment document and technical annexes to main agreement. Early works now underway including technical designs, topographic surveys, geotechnical tests, civil and environmental works, and preparation of temporary facilities.
Water sector achievements also include €31m grant agreement from German government through KfW to support National Carrier, signing of wastewater project agreement for Hakamah–Irbid worth JD11.38m funded by KfW, and agreement for North East Balqa wastewater plant worth €60m financed by French Development Agency plus €15m grant from EU.
Other projects launched include rehabilitation of Mastaba–Jerash water networks worth JD7.03m and Tafileh networks worth JD6.1m.
Report highlights additional achievements such as receiving water harvesting sites with storage capacity of 750,000 cubic metres, meetings of Jordanian-Syrian joint committee on Yarmouk River basin, infrastructure protection works at dams, launch of water-energy management system to boost efficiency, and approval of amended groundwater monitoring by-law for 2025.
