Ihsan Haddad selection sparks growing controversy

Debate over calling up Ihsan Haddad to accompany the national team has gone too far, with many seeing the decision as a burden on coach Jamal Salami and his staff amid fans’ criticism and questions.

Observers and supporters argue Haddad has already been appreciated enough. His continued presence in the squad despite a long absence due to injury — with no clear return in sight — raises awkward but valid questions.

Why should the team cover his travel, accommodation and bonuses while he does not play? Is it even legal? And technically, how can an absent player occupy a spot that could go to someone needed on the pitch?

Haddad’s impact has not reached a level that warrants what feels like a permanent pass with the squad. If the federation insists on honouring his contributions, why ignore stars who achieved far more, yet today cannot even get a ticket to a league match, or have simply been forgotten? Why not host a former player at each training camp instead?

The choice by Salami and the federation has triggered wide criticism and calls for explanation. The national team can surely compete without Haddad sitting in the hotel with administrators or in the VIP stand — unless Salami sees him as a lucky charm.
