Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Makram Al-Qaisi, said on Thursday that there are "clear programs" to promote medical and hospital tourism in Jordan, after the kingdom has become a global tourist and therapeutic destination.
Al-Qaisi spoke during a press conference, on the sidelines of the medical and hospital tourism conference organized by the World Tourism Organization in the Dead Sea region, about Jordan's investment "during the past decades in the human element, and at the head of this human element is the health field, doctors and nurses."
Al-Qaisi mentioned the first open heart operation, the first catheterization heart operation in the Middle East, the first liver transplant operation, and the first Siamese twins operation in Jordan, pointing to "excellent experience and reputation in this field, and we will build on it."
He described Jordan's relationship with international and regional organizations as "the most important" on the political and diplomatic levels.
Al-Qaisi touched on the diversity of tourism in Jordan, starting from cultural tourism and religious tourism, as the Vatican recognizes 5 major sites in Jordan, in addition to adventure and recreation tourism, and today a new product was added, which is therapeutic and healing tourism.
He said that the Ministry of Tourism's plan is to "start promoting tourist areas, site by site," as priority will be given to sites on the World Heritage List.
