The Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Makram Al-Qaisi, revealed that the ministry is about to begin licensing tourist guides with disabilities to enable them to remove obstacles and integrate them into society.
Al-Qaisi said, during his meeting at the Ministry's headquarters today, Tuesday, with the President of the Jordanian Solidarity Society for the Deaf, Muhammad Nafeh, that caring for people with disabilities is an important social responsibility that rests with the entire society, and His Majesty King Abdullah II pays great attention to these groups and cares for them, through His continuous guidance and humanitarian vision in empowering and integrating them into society.
He stressed that deaf people have the right, like other individuals, to achievement and creativity, pointing out that a person with visual impairment has been licensed to work as a tourist guide, and this license is the first of its kind in the Kingdom.
Al-Qaisi stressed that the ministry, in cooperation with the Department of Antiquities, pays attention to all groups with special needs by facilitating their access to all tourist and archaeological sites, and creating tourist paths for them within international standards.
And he indicated that the ministry is working in cooperation with the Supreme Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities to prepare tourist sites and facilities, develop their infrastructure to suit people with disabilities, in addition to training cadres working in the tourism sector to serve this group, and include people with disabilities in the sector's training plan. Tourism to enable them to work in various tourism professions, in addition to the use of technology in facilitated tourism, and the development of legislation in this regard.
In turn, the president of the association gave an explanation during the meeting about the objectives of the association and the services it provides to this group of deaf people, which include integrating deaf youth and girls with society, supporting their creativity and developing their skills, helping them to participate in exhibitions and bazaars, and accompanying them on recreational tourism trips.
