Arab Bank organized an informative panel discussion for its corporate clients focusing on the applications of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards within the corporate sector. The event aimed to highlight key developments in this field while examining the opportunities and challenges associated with implementing ESG criteria across the business environment.
The session addressed several core themes, reviewing prominent topics in sustainability. It hosted a group of experts and specialists, speakers from financial and advisory institutions, alongside representatives from Arab Bank's corporate client base.
Organized by the ESG Sustainability Office in coordination with the Corporate and Financial Institutions Banking Directorate for the Jordan Region, the event aligns with Arab Bank's comprehensive ESG management strategy and its vision to long-term positive impact by adopting responsible banking practices across its regional network.
The event explored the sustainability landscape and its relationship with the business environment and corporate priorities, examining global and regional developments and their implications for corporate operations, investment decisions, and financing strategies. It featured panel discussions moderated by representatives from international development finance institutions and advisory firms, addressing sustainability-related risks, opportunities, and mechanisms for prioritizing actions tailored to corporate operational needs.
Furthermore, participants from various Jordanian companies across diverse sectors presented their sustainability success stories, discussing how they identified sustainability priorities within their operations, translated them into practical steps, managed implementation challenges, and extracted key lessons from their experiences.
Demonstrating its commitment to supporting corporate clients, Arab Bank dedicated a specialized session to showcase its own sustainability journey and introduce sustainable banking services and solutions designed to support companies in their transition. These included Sustainable Deposits and Sustainable Trade Finance, alongside plans to launch Sustainability-Linked Financing solutions currently under development. The bank emphasized the importance of ongoing dialogue with clients to tailor solutions to their business needs and support their steps toward sustainable practices.
For his part, Mr. Waleed Samhouri, Head of Jordan Region at Arab Bank, stated: "Sustainability and its associated environmental, social, and governance considerations are receiving growing attention in the business world due to their direct impact on companies' ability to manage risks, enhance operational efficiency, and keep pace with market, customer, and investor expectations." He added: "Organizing this panel discussion reflects Arab Bank's keenness to strengthen communication channels with corporate clients, providing a platform to exchange knowledge, discuss emerging trends in sustainability and governance, and enable clients to capitalize on available opportunities to develop their businesses and boost resilience amid rapid changes."
Notably, Arab Bank launched its comprehensive ESG management strategy in 2023. This ambitious strategy outlines a detailed approach to managing environmental, social, and governance issues, with a strong focus on climate change. It incorporates frameworks under which Arab Bank commits to integrating ESG elements into its governance model, supporting the transition to low-carbon economies, and driving sustainable social development, backed by an effective governance structure ensuring seamless integration into daily bank operations.
