The Minister of Public Works and Housing and the Minister of Transport, Eng. Ahmed Abu Al-Samin, inspected, on Sunday, the progress of work on the Ersal Intersection project, in the Muqablain area in the capital, Amman.
During the tour, the minister stressed the need to complete the works on the project, and to open it to the movement of vehicles before the end of this year, stressing the importance of completing all works, according to the highest engineering standards adopted globally, as this project will contribute to alleviating traffic congestion and enhance service for citizens at the intersection.
He pointed out that the Ministry of Public Works and Housing, in cooperation with the relevant authorities, is currently studying the reality of roads in the Kingdom, so that after its completion, the necessary work will be started according to the priorities that are identified and the necessary funding is available, whether from the budget of the ministry or the provincial council, to raise their efficiency.
He indicated that the purpose of establishing the project is to solve the problem of traffic congestion and raise the level of services provided to citizens at the intersection. He also listened to a detailed briefing from those concerned about the progress of work in the project, which has a completion rate of 96 percent.
The works in the project include the construction of a 4-level intersection consisting of a 650-meter concrete bridge for traffic coming from Amman towards Airport Street and the Dead Sea on Al-Quds Street in both directions, a 476-meter concrete bridge for traffic coming from Al-Hurriya Street toward Airport Road, and a 130-meter-long tunnel within 4 Lane equipped with lanes for high-frequency buses in both directions and a ground intersection with a traffic light.
It also included the complete rehabilitation of the surrounding roads, the construction of sidewalks, rainwater drainage systems, lighting works, all traffic safety works, and many necessary works in accordance with the highest international standards.
The Ministry of Public Works and Housing had recently completed the work on the main upper bridge that connects Al-Quds Street with the Ersal Intersection project in the capital, and it was reopened to vehicle traffic.
