The volume of investment in the telecommunications sector continued to rise during 2022, rising for the second consecutive year, achieving its highest level in the last eight years to reach 341,000,000 JOD .
According to a statement by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) on Tuesday, the figures indicated a rise in companies’ investment, especially in network equipment, to enhance and expand their infrastructure to keep pace with the growing demand for telecommunications services and raise their quality.
The Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Authority,Bassam Al-Sarhan, said that the increase is due to investments from mobile service providers worth 262,000,000 JOD, in the acquisition of frequency spectrum to operate fifth generation services and the purchase of equipment and devices to build and develop the infrastructure to provide services for this generation.
He added that the process of developing infrastructure is ongoing and is not limited to fifth generation services, as the volume of investment by mobile telecommunications companies in 2021 reached about 256 million dinars.
Al-Sarhan pointed out that investment in the fixed telecommunications sector achieved its highest levels during the year 2022, reaching a value of 79,000,000 JOD, as a result of increasing investment in infrastructure and purchasing network and communications equipment to provide advanced telecommunications services, including fiber optic network services, whose spread was remarkable during the past years, as the volume of investment in fixed telecommunications services for the year 2021 amounted to about 68,000,000 million.
According to Al-Sarhan, the increase comes as a result of strengthening joint efforts and cooperation to overcome the obstacles facing the telecommunications sector, the appropriate environment to stimulate investment, encourage competition, and formulate appropriate and enabling legislative frameworks for the sector, to continue to grow and progress and provide high-quality services to all beneficiaries in line with the aspirations and objectives of the vision of economic modernization.
