The official Syrian news agency SANA reported on Saturday morning an attack “likely to be Israeli” targeting a house in the Syrian capital Damascus, while the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported the death of 5 people in the bombing that targeted a building that housed a meeting of leaders close to Iran.
SANA said: “An attack likely to be Israeli targeting a residential building in the Mazzeh neighborhood of Damascus.”
SANA quoted its correspondent as saying that an attack on a residential building in the Mazzeh district of Damascus was “mostly caused by Israeli aggression”.
However, reports were updated with “a huge explosion in the Mazzeh neighborhood in central Damascus and reports that Israel targeted an important figure.”
The agency did not mention the nature of the targeted residential building or the identity of its occupants, nor did it mention human or material losses.
The London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said “an explosion rang out in Damascus,” but gave no further details about the cause of the blast.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said five people were killed by shelling on Damascus, noting that the targeted area was inhabited by leaders from Hezbollah and Islamic Jihad.
Later, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that “Israeli shelling in Damascus targeted a building that housed a meeting of leaders close to Iran.”
Sources suggested that Jihad leader Akram al-Ajouri was killed in the bombing of Damascus.
Reuters quoted a source in a pro-Syrian regional coalition as saying that “the Israeli raid on Damascus killed an official of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards.”
