White House communications staff have had to correct public statements by President Joe Biden at least 148 times since the beginning of 2024, according to a review of official White House transcripts.
The White House issues an official text whenever the president gives a speech or receives questions.
An analysis by the “Daily Caller” newspaper showed that communications staff often correct or add to or change Biden’s official statements to make them consistent with official White House policy, or in some cases, reality.
In several instances, official statements had to be changed to convey the exact opposite of what Biden actually said.
Through 118 statements, speeches, and conversations with journalists from January 1 to April 24, the White House officially updated its text with corrections to what Biden said aloud at least 148 times.
Some of the amendments include corrections to names, dates, and titles of organizations, while others change verbs and alter the entire meaning of the president’s statement. Words that the American president did not say, but should have said according to White House staff, were also added to the texts, as reported by the “Daily Caller.”
The site published some of Biden’s statements and the amendments to them, such as the following statement:
“We have vaccinated the bulk of America. We have overcome this pandemic with less than 200 million people - with less than 2 million people vaccinated when I took office… Today, 720 [270] million Americans have received the COVID vaccine,” as stated in the White House text from an election campaign reception on January 30. (The total population of America is about 333 million people, according to the U.S. Census Bureau).
Overall, Biden made mistakes in the names or titles of individuals, places, and groups 20 times from January 1 to April 24, according to the Daily Caller analysis. He misrepresented the numbers of his achievements, often confusing thousands, millions, billions, and trillions 12 times.
When telling stories, the Daily Caller analysis found that Biden often mixes up pronouns, for example, sometimes saying “we” instead of “he” when referring to former President Donald Trump. The White House transcripts corrected this 13 times.
The president also faced 20 errors when referring to healthcare, which the White House corrected. He confused seniors with disabilities and seniors with “diabetes.” The White House did not respond to the Daily Caller’s request for comment.
The Daily Caller’s analysis does not include the times when the White House changed texts without indicating a change.
