On Sunday, His Majesty King Abdullah II and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz discussed the dangerous developments in Gaza. His Majesty stressed the need for the international community to move urgently to reach an immediate and permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
During his meeting with Chancellor Schulz in the city of Aqaba, His Majesty stressed the importance of intensifying efforts to protect civilians, providing humanitarian aid to the sector in an adequate and sustainable manner, and delivering it by all possible means.
His Majesty the King, in the presence of His Highness Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II, the Crown Prince, warned of the tragic humanitarian conditions in Gaza, which require redoubled efforts to prevent their aggravation.
His Majesty also warned of the danger of stopping support provided to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), and its dangerous repercussions on the Gaza Strip, the West Bank and Jordan.
His Majesty the King reiterated Jordan's rejection of any attempts to forcibly displace Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza, and attempts to separate them.
His Majesty warned of the necessity of confronting the violence practiced by extremist settlers against Palestinians in the West Bank, and the violations against Islamic and Christian holy places in Jerusalem.
Both sides warned of the danger of the Israeli attack on Rafah, which will exacerbate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
The meeting touched on the role of the European Union and its efforts in achieving peace, as His Majesty the King stressed the necessity of serious and effective work in order to find a political horizon to achieve just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution.
The meeting also discussed the strong relations between Jordan and Germany, especially the close cooperation between them in vocational training and technical education for youth in Jordan and the keenness to strengthen it, and the continued German support for development projects in the Kingdom.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs, Ayman Al-Safadi, Director of His Majesty’s Office, Jaafar Hassan, the delegation accompanying Chancellor Schulz, and the German Ambassador to the Kingdom, Bertram von Moltke.
