The King stresses the importance of the draft general amnesty law taking into account the public interest and preserving personal and civil rights
On Wednesday, His Majesty King Abdullah II directed the government to prepare a draft law for general amnesty and implement its constitutional procedures.
The royal directives come on the occasion of the silver jubilee of His Majesty the King assuming his constitutional powers and His Majesty ascending the throne.
His Majesty the King stressed the importance of the draft law taking into account the public interest, preserving personal and civil rights, in accordance with the principles of justice and the rule of law, and not conflicting with the requirements of national security and societal peace.
His Majesty expressed his hope that the draft law would contribute to alleviating the burdens on citizens, working to help those who stray from the path of truth and seriousness in correcting their path, contributing to spreading the spirit of positivity and tolerance in society and spreading the concept of restorative justice.
His Majesty the King stressed the importance of this step being an opportunity for change in the hearts of those who will be included in the general amnesty if it is approved, by returning to their social lives and engaging actively within the framework of respect for the law and the rights of citizens.
