Astronomer Imad Mujahid, a member of the Arab Union for Space and Astronomy, and a fellow of the British Royal Astronomical Society, said that the sky will witness a total solar eclipse, the first this year, on Monday evening, 4/8/2024, which means that the birth of the next month of Shawwal will be visible to the naked eye. .
Mujahid indicated that the eclipse will reach its midpoint at 9:18 pm Saudi time, but it will not be seen in any Arab or Islamic country, as the upcoming solar eclipse will be seen in Canada, the United States of America, and Mexico only.
The solar eclipse is considered one of the visible evidences of the birth of the crescent and the beginning of the new month, as the moon is not seen when it is in conjunction, that is, in birth, except in one case, which is the event of a solar eclipse, and accordingly, the crescent of Shawwal is born.
He said that the eclipse has no effect on people’s lives and is not a cause or indication of the occurrence of natural disasters, as the Arabs in pre-Islamic times, as well as the ancient peoples and before the advent of Islam, linked solar eclipses with disasters and wars on earth, but upon the revelation of the Holy Qur’an and the beginning of the Islamic call, Islam forbade the connection. Solar eclipses cause disasters and wars, as the sky of Mecca witnessed a solar eclipse upon the death of our master Abraham, son of the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him. People thought that the eclipse was a sign of Abraham’s death, but the Messenger, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said, “The sun and the moon are two of God’s signs. They will not be eclipsed due to the death of anyone or For his life.”
