The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates strongly condemned today the attack by Israeli extremist settlers on two Jordanian aid convoys carrying food, flour, and other humanitarian assistance to the Gaza Strip. One of the convoys was heading to Gaza via the Kerem Shalom crossing, while the other was the first to be supposed to enter Gaza through the Erez crossing.
The Ministry considered the failure of the Israeli government to protect the aid convoys and allowing them to be attacked as a flagrant violation of its legal obligations, given its role as the occupying force, and its commitment to allowing aid to enter Gaza.
Dr. Sufyan Al-Qudah, the Ministry’s official spokesperson, stated that the extremists’ attack on the convoys and the Israeli authorities’ failure to secure their protection undermine all claims made by the Israeli government regarding its commitment to allowing aid into Gaza, including through the Erez crossing.
Al-Qudah held the Israeli authorities fully responsible for this crime and called on the international community to take a clear stance condemning it and compelling Israel to fulfill its legal obligations by ensuring the protection of aid convoys and international organizations working to receive and distribute aid.
The aid convoys were organized by the Hashemite Charitable Organization in cooperation with (Takiyya Um Ali, the World Food Programme (WFP), Human Appeal organization based in the UK, the Charity Supply organization based in South Africa, and the International Medical Corps (IMC) based in the United States). Despite the attack, the convoys continued their mission towards Gaza, driven by the urgency to deliver aid in light of the humanitarian crisis it faces, and they reached their destinations.
