The Tourism and Heritage Committee of the Senate, chaired by Senator Engineer Abdelhakim Mahmoud Al-Hindi, visited the American University in Madaba Governorate today, Wednesday, represented by its President Professor Dr. Mamoun Al-Akroush, to listen and learn about the reality of the university’s work.
Senator Al-Hindi indicated that the visit was part of a series of visits carried out by the committee to all colleges, especially those related to tourism, in both public and private Jordanian universities, stemming from his belief in this sector and its role as a fundamental contributor to the Jordanian economy, emphasizing the importance of transforming the challenges of the tourism and hotel sector, which is one of the largest investment resources in the kingdom, into opportunities.
Al-Hindi pointed to the support of His Majesty King Abdullah II and His Royal Highness Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II, the Crown Prince, for the youth and their encouragement to innovate and lead businesses in all fields, noting that the tourism sector’s development and sustainability are characterized by the determination and will of its people and students.
Al-Hindi spoke about the youth’s future vision for this sector, indicating that the young men and women of the Jordanian people are relied upon to continue building their country and achieving their aspirations in all economic sectors to rise to the level desired by His Majesty King Abdullah II and his Crown Prince, His Royal Highness Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II.
He also spoke about the qualitative leap that the tourism sector has witnessed since His Majesty King Abdullah II assumed his constitutional powers 25 years ago, which is represented in the massive increase in the number of hotels and hotel rooms, tourist transportation, tourist guides, the operation of tourist offices and their increasing number, in addition to the distinguished Jordanian labor in this sector, which has become sought after in the Gulf market.
For his part, Al-Akroush referred to the tourism sector as Jordan’s oil and one of the most important Jordanian treasures, whether in historical tourism or natural tourism, noting the need to work on tourism marketing methods starting from the budget and marketing mechanisms.
Al-Akroush expressed his pride and gratitude for all the students and faculty, and the efforts made to reach what the university has achieved today, where the employment rate of graduates reaches up to 94%.
An extensive discussion took place between the students and the committee members, who are His Excellency Mr. Khair Al-Din Hakuz, His Excellency Mr. Abdullah Al-Matar, His Excellency Mr. Mohammad Al-Azaydeh, Her Excellency Mrs. Maha Al-Bahu, and His Excellency Dr. Zuhair Abu Fares, during which they listened to their challenges and opinions.
