Amman — Arab Potash Company and Vocational Training Corporation sign cooperation agreement Wednesday to establish specialised vocational training academy in Zuhum area, Karak Governorate, with financial contribution of 450,000 Jordanian dinars, aiming to train and qualify Jordanian youth, particularly in southern governorates, and raise readiness to enter labour market locally and regionally.
Agreement signed by Labour Minister and Chairman of Vocational Training Corporation Dr Khaled Al-Bakkar and Arab Potash Company Chairman Engineer Shehadeh Abu Hdeib.
Agreement aligns with targets of Economic Modernisation Vision, continuing Arab Potash approach in supporting local communities where it operates and enhancing sustainable development in southern governorates through investment in human capital and provision of vocational training programmes that raise youth readiness for Jordan labour market and enable access to jobs locally or in regional and international markets.
Arab Potash to contribute total of 450,000 dinars, disbursed in three phases from 2025 to 2027, with funding allocated exclusively to establishment and operation of academy as stipulated in agreement.
Commenting on agreement, Dr Khaled Al-Bakkar says partnership aligns with Economic Modernisation Vision goals to empower, train and employ Jordanian youth across sectors, noting agreement enables training youth for work at Arab Potash and other mining-sector companies, in addition to qualifying them to access regional and global labour markets.
For his part, Engineer Shehadeh Abu Hdeib says agreement falls within company social responsibility towards southern governorates and areas of operation, stressing Arab Potash views local development as long-term partnership rather than temporary initiatives.
Abu Hdeib explains Arab Potash and affiliated and allied companies plan major expansions in coming years, alongside growing industrial activity in southern governorates, creating need for qualified, trained young cadres capable of meeting next-phase requirements.
He adds investment in youth training and qualification forms key pillar for sustainability and competitiveness of industrial sector, noting academy to prepare youth for work in industrial sectors inside Jordan or abroad, expanding employment prospects, supporting national economy and strengthening stability of local communities. He confirms Arab Potash to continue implementing qualitative development initiatives supporting southern development, enhancing job opportunities and building qualified human base supporting comprehensive development.
Under agreement, Vocational Training Corporation to manage and operate academy, design and implement training and qualification programmes, provide specialised technical staff, and issue accredited training certificates in line with current and future labour market needs.
