The Director of the Tunisia and Morocco Region at Royal Jordanian, Ahmed Akour, said that the Royal Jordanian achieved a 51% growth in passenger traffic on the Amman-Tunis line only during the first third of 2023, and a growth in revenues by 61%.
Akour spoke during a promotional ceremony for the Jordanian destination organized by the Tourism Promotion Authority and Royal Jordanian Airlines in Tunis on Monday evening, about the company's ambitious plan for five years, with the aim of doubling the fleet to 44 aircraft, the first batch of which will be received this year.
Akour added that the plan also aims to double international destinations to more than 60 global destinations.
The Jordanian ambassador to Tunisia, Maher Tarawneh, who sponsored the ceremony, highlighted the distinguished relations between Jordan and Tunisia at various levels, especially in the field of tourism, which recently witnessed the exchange of visits between travel and tourism agents in the two countries.
He pointed to the positive indicators of the competitiveness of tourism and travel agencies in the Kingdom, and the qualitative leap witnessed compared to last year, recording 19 points, as Jordan ranked 64th globally in the travel and tourism index.
He presented the positive indicators of smart tourism in Jordan, as well as the positive indicators of tourism development, as tourism income increased during the first quarter of the current year by 88%, recording an increase of one million and 400 thousand tourists, and tourism revenues amounted to one billion and 700 million during the same period.
Tarawneh called on tourism and travel agents in Tunisia to visit Jordan and learn about its rich tourism product and historical and archaeological sites.
For his part, the representative of the Tourism Promotion Authority, Khaled Al-Kilani, said that what the authority has achieved is good indicators, given that it did not start operating in the Tunisian market until 2017, and that the Corona virus disrupted activity during the past two years.
