U.S. President Donald Trump stated on Monday that the United States sent 200 personnel to participate in the rescue of American aircrew members inside Iran, highlighting the "great talent" involved in rescue missions.
During a press conference, Trump added: "We could have Iran totally eliminated by tomorrow night."
Trump emphasized that the U.S. military "leaves no one behind," describing the search and rescue mission for two American service members in Iran as one of the most complex and dangerous operations ever conducted. "We had a number of planes that were in enemy skies, and some were at low altitudes with guns pointed at them," Trump said.
Earlier, in a post on the "Truth Social" platform, Trump announced he would hold a press conference alongside military leaders following what the U.S. described as a "bold" military operation to rescue a crew member of an F-15 fighter jet from within Iranian territory.
Trump stated that U.S. forces successfully rescued a "critically injured aircrew member of great courage," noting that the operation was carried out in mountainous regions of Iran while being pursued by Iranian forces. He described the mission as rare due to the extreme risks to "personnel and equipment," revealing that two separate rescues took place—one of which occurred in "broad daylight" and lasted approximately seven hours within Iranian airspace.
Trump called the operation a "stunning display of courage and competence," praising the performance of the American forces.
This press conference comes amid rapid military escalation between the U.S. and Iran, characterized by mutual threats and intense diplomatic efforts to contain the crisis. It also coincides with reports from Axios, citing four U.S., Israeli, and regional sources, that the U.S., Iran, and regional mediators are discussing terms for a potential 45-day ceasefire that could pave the way for a permanent end to the war.
