Economic expert Munir Deyah predicted that fuel prices in Jordan will witness a new increase during next May pricing, in light of significant increases recorded in global oil prices, which exceeded 110 dollars per barrel according to global market indicators.
Deyah said in a statement to Rum that expectations indicate fuel prices rising by a percentage ranging between 8 to 12 percent, explaining that price of Octane 95 gasoline per liter may reach one dinar and 32 piasters, while price of Octane 90 approaches one dinar per liter, and diesel may reach about 78 piasters, with prices of gas and kerosene remaining unchanged. He noted that government bears price differences to limit increasing burdens on citizens.
He added that current increases come as a direct reflection of global escalation, current crisis, and ongoing war in region, along with state of uncertainty dominating global markets and failure to reach political agreements contributing to calming situation and closing Strait of Hormuz.
Deyah pointed out that anticipated fuel price hike will be third in a row with a cumulative increase estimated at about 25 percent, which places citizen before a difficult living equation in light of fixed incomes and rising costs of life.
He explained that any new increase in fuel prices will reflect directly on prices of goods and services, which will increase economic pressures on families and affect various economic sectors as a result of declining purchasing power and decreased spending values.
