The Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) and Petra University on Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening cooperation in preserving Amman's historical and architectural heritage.
The memo seeks to develop Amman's tourist and cultural routes and promote its cultural identity.
The agreement establishes a framework for collaboration between the Municipality and the University in developing tourist and cultural routes across Amman, conducting joint research and studies on archaeological and tourism sites and providing field training opportunities for university students specialising in tourism and archaeology.
Under the MoU, the two sides would exchange expertise through workshops, training courses and conferences, while holding regular coordination meetings to advance shared objectives.
The agreement provides for the organisation of joint tourism and cultural events, cooperation in scientific research, training and capacity-building initiatives and the engagement of students and faculty members in community-based projects and applied research.
The partnership covers areas including digital transformation, community service, innovation and entrepreneurship and international cooperation.
The initiative seeks to leverage academic expertise to support GAM's efforts to safeguard Amman's architectural heritage and reinforce its standing as a leading cultural and tourism destination.
Under the terms of the MoU, GAM would provide logistical support to facilitate researchers' and students' access to relevant sites and data, while Petra University would contribute academic and scientific expertise in documentation, planning and analysis.
