When we talk about sustainability today, we are not discussing a corporate luxury, but rather an imperative necessity and a national demand. Sustainability is the true gateway to development; it is the bridge that connects economic prosperity with environmental protection for future generations within the Economic Modernization Vision for the year 2033.
This vision comes as a translation of the directives of His Majesty King Abdullah II Ibn Al-Hussein, as it is built upon two pillars: economic growth and quality of life, both of which reflect the importance of sustainability as an essential element in shaping the future of the Jordanian economy.
A Firm National Vision Toward a Sustainable Future
Given the importance of sustainability in the Economic Modernization Vision, Jordan seeks to achieve the 17 Sustainable Development Goals set by the United Nations, in line with the global trend toward building a green future. This is in addition to stimulating a new segment of investments in sustainable projects, launching qualitative initiatives that offer innovative solutions, and improving export competitiveness. Through this, the Kingdom aspires to become a low-carbon, resource-efficient country that ensures social inclusion and serves as a regional hub for innovative and environmentally safe entrepreneurship.
The Kingdom's plans in this scope revolve around developing the future of sustainability through the implementation of 20 main initiatives focusing on several core aspects. These include improving the quality of life, relying on renewable energy, rationalizing water consumption, and investing in green projects to achieve sustainable economic growth.
This underscores the centrality of sustainability, as it contributes to achieving two goals of the vision. The first goal is applying sustainability principles to economic growth to realize a number of aspirations, which include enabling green economic growth, raising the level of reliance on renewable energy sources, reducing energy utilization, promoting an environmentally friendly culture, facilitating green investments, and lowering the overall consumption of primary energy sources. The second goal lies in applying sustainability principles to the quality of life to enable environmentally friendly practices, reduce air pollution, and increase qualitative green spaces.
Among the Kingdom's most prominent environmental achievements is making a qualitative leap by reaching the 71st rank globally in the Sustainable Development Goals Index for the year 2025, according to the Sustainable Development Report. With this, Jordan has surpassed the regional averages for the Middle East and North Africa region, while also recording a score of 58.2% in the sustainable growth future index. It is worth noting that the agricultural sector has witnessed a major improvement through the institutions responsible for implementing comprehensive developmental programs, leading to achieving a self-sufficiency rate of more than 61% of total crops, which contributes to raising the quality of life in the Kingdom and empowering all individuals.
As an exceptional model of companies that translate the Kingdom's sustainability vision and a tangible impact, Orange Jordan stands out as a leading example of the positive outcome when adopting the national vision as a core framework. In its capacity as the Kingdom's trusted partner, the company contributes to achieving Jordan's goals related to the drivers of shaping the future of sustainability, and seeks to enhance its position in this field while keeping pace with the global trend in a manner that aligns with its corporate social responsibility and its strategy to serve the local environment.
Orange Jordan: Enhancing Sustainability in Harmony with National Efforts
One of the most important goals of the national vision is Jordan's transition into a low-carbon emitting country. In line with this, Orange Jordan operates according to a comprehensive strategic plan to reach net-zero carbon emissions by the year 2040. The company has achieved tangible milestones, represented by reducing its carbon footprint by 50% as a result of cutting 70 kilotons of carbon emissions since 2018.
The company continues to record distinguished results, having successfully executed a number of green initiatives such as tree planting and environmental cleaning campaigns. This is in addition to being the first to adopt clean renewable energy in the Kingdom through three major solar farms—two in the Mafraq Governorate and one in Amman—which led to covering more than 60% of the company's energy needs in 2020. Furthermore, it continues to develop and introduce solutions that support national efforts to transition toward a green, digital, and inclusive economy, while providing supportive programs such as empowering startups that offer solutions in agricultural technology, waste management, and energy efficiency.
Orange Jordan is more than just a telecommunications company; it is also a true partner in supporting national efforts and keeping pace with global trends in comprehensive sustainability. The company's commitment extends beyond the borders of the capital, Amman, to reach all governorates of the Kingdom, out of its belief in the necessity of providing the gateway to digital and environmental development and making it accessible to everyone.
The company continues to strengthen its efforts in prospering national innovation, investing in the infrastructure for comprehensive sustainability and digital growth, and harnessing technology and developing programs that serve every Jordanian individual and protect the environment, within the national vision to build a green future and achieve long-term sustainability.
