Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Chairman of the Palestinian National Liberation Movement "Fatah," chaired the opening session of the newly elected Fatah Revolutionary Council on Thursday. The session was held at the presidential headquarters in Ramallah, with concurrent participation via video link from Gaza, Cairo, and Beirut, and in the presence of the elected members of the Fatah Central Committee.
During his opening address, Abbas stated: "I am pleased to meet you today in the first meeting of the elected Revolutionary Council, following the great success achieved by Fatah's Eighth General Congress, which was convened under extremely difficult and complex circumstances both within the homeland and across Gaza, Egypt, and Lebanon."
The President reaffirmed his firm commitment to democratic principles, national unity, and independent national decision-making.
Abbas underscored complete readiness for organizing the Palestinian National Council (PNC) elections scheduled for this coming November, which will encompass general legislative elections both at home and abroad. He noted that work is being finalized on drafting the constitution, the political parties law, and the general elections law to firmly establish a state of institutions, the rule of law, political pluralism, and the peaceful transition of power. Following these steps, the presidential elections are slated to take place next year.
He concluded that these consecutive steps serve as a continuation of the democratic trajectory that launched with youth movement elections, followed by local municipal body elections, and culminated in Fatah's Eighth General Congress—a path that he emphasized reflects the will and commitment of the Palestinian people to democratic participation.
