Senate President Faisal Fayez said on Monday that Jordanian-Egyptian relations are deeply-rooted and built on mutual respect and cooperation.

He noted the close ties between His Majesty King Abdullah II and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, and their shared commitment to further cementing relations across various fields.

Fayez spoke at a meeting in Cairo with Egyptian Senate President Essam Farid, on the sidelines of the 10th Summit of Speakers of Parliaments of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean, the Senate said in a statement.

The encounter focused on building on the close ties between the two countries and parliamentary cooperation to serve common goals and coordinate positions on issues of mutual concern.

Fayez said challenges facing the Arab nation require unified positions and efforts, as well as an integrated Arab political and economic framework to protect Arab security and stability from regional and international interference.

He said Arab economic unity has become essential toward broader integration, noting that Arab countries possess the human and economic potential to become an influential regional and international force capable of protecting their interests.

Fayez commended Egypt’s positions rejecting Iranian attacks on Jordan, supporting the Hashemite Custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, and backing His Majesty’s efforts to achieve peace in the region. He also praised Egypt’s support for Arab causes.

Farid affirmed the deep historical and brotherly relations between Egypt and Jordan, praising the continued development of ties between Cairo and Amman and their close coordination on regional and international issues.

He stressed Egypt’s support for Jordan against any threat to its security, stability, and territorial integrity, and emphasized the need to avoid practices that could fuel tensions or undermine efforts to bring about regional security and peace.

The two sides reaffirmed Jordan's and Egypt’s firm position in support of the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, the two-state solution, and voiced their categorical rejection of any attempt to displace Palestinians or liquidate the Palestinian cause.
