Raafat Assi, in the presence of RSS Vice President for Scientific Research Dr. Arafat Awajan and Vice President for Technology Dr. Nabil Al-Fayoumi, to discuss opportunities for joint cooperation between the two sides.
During the meeting, which was attended by several directors from the Jordan Petroleum Refinery and the Royal Scientific Society, the two sides discussed mechanisms for executing specialized joint technical studies, exchanging expertise in environmental monitoring, utilizing the Society's accredited laboratories, and enhancing resource efficiency to serve both parties' objectives and keep pace with global best practices.
Al-Baqa'i stated that the Jordan Petroleum Refinery attaches great importance to developing partnerships with leading national institutions. He expressed appreciation for the distinguished role played by the Royal Scientific Society in various fields, noting that it acts as a national and regional house of expertise due to its scientific and technical competencies, research centers, and accredited laboratories that contribute to providing scientific and applied solutions across many industrial and economic sectors in the Kingdom.
He added that cooperation with the Society aligns with the company's direction to enhance environmental performance and benefit from the latest scientific practices in sustainability, adding value to the company's operations and supporting its development plans.
For his part, Al-Hiyari emphasized that he views this meeting as positive and constructive, forming an important strategic step toward building an institutional partnership with the Royal Scientific Society. This will leverage its expertise in areas such as resource rationalization, laboratory accreditation, emissions management, and environmental compliance, ensuring enhanced operational efficiency for the refinery. This coincides with the company's preparations to implement the Fourth Expansion Project ("Refinery Modernization"), which aims to improve product quality, meet environmental standards, and reduce carbon emissions.
Eng. Assi reviewed the milestones and development stages of the Royal Scientific Society as the leading multidisciplinary non-profit research institution in Jordan. He provided an overview of its research centers, research in the water, environment, and energy sectors, and the role of the Society's researchers in this field. In conclusion, both sides affirmed the importance of continued coordination and enhanced cooperation, agreeing to sign a memorandum of understanding to leverage the technical expertise of the Royal Scientific Society in conducting tests and providing specialized consultations. This will contribute to raising the company's operational efficiency, executing its projects, and ensuring quality according to the best approved standards.
