House Speaker Mazen Qadi on Wednesday received French Ambassador Franck Gellet to discuss strengthening relations and parliamentary cooperation.

Qadi highlighted the deep-rooted ties between Jordan and France and the two countries’ coordination on regional and international issues, reflected in continued consultations between His Majesty King Abdullah II and French President Emmanuel Macron.

He stressed the importance of expanding parliamentary cooperation and building on the existing partnership to serve mutual interests and broaden cooperation in economic, investment, and development fields, particularly water, energy, transport, education, and technology.

Qadi said Jordan remains committed to the two-state solution as the only path to a just and comprehensive peace that guarantees the establishment of an independent Palestinian state. He said this position aligns with France’s stance and its international efforts to recognize the Palestinian state.

He also noted the alignment between Jordan and France on supporting Syria’s stability and territorial integrity.

Qadi reviewed Jordan’s efforts to promote regional security and stability, as well as the Kingdom’s political, economic, and administrative modernization tracks and progress in expanding political participation and empowering women and youth.

Gellet said France values its distinguished relations with Jordan and is keen to continue strengthening cooperation across various fields, describing the Kingdom as a trusted partner in the region.

He said France continues to support Jordan through the French Development Agency (AFD), noting that French investments are the largest European investments in the Kingdom. He also pointed to interest in expanding cooperation in water, energy, Syria’s reconstruction, and regional economic connectivity.

The ambassador said the two countries share similar positions on many regional issues, foremost the Palestinian cause. He reaffirmed France’s support for the two-state solution, respect for international law, and support for the Hashemite Custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

The meeting also addressed the importance of strengthening cooperation between the Jordanian Lower House of Parliament and the French Parliament and making use of an upcoming visit by a French parliamentary delegation to Jordan to deepen dialogue and exchange expertise
