The media spokesperson for the Public Security Directorate stated that numerous reports were received yesterday by the Zarqa Governorate Police Directorate and Civil Defense regarding a large number of people suffering from food poisoning and visiting hospitals or requesting ambulance assistance from Civil Defense. An investigation and coordination were immediately initiated with official authorities in Zarqa Governorate, the Ministry of Health, the Food and Drug Administration, and the Royal Administration for Environmental Protection.
​The media spokesperson confirmed that investigations revealed all the treated or hospitalized cases had consumed meals and food from a restaurant in the Hashemiyah district of Zarqa Governorate. Consequently, the restaurant owner and one of the workers were immediately detained, the restaurant was closed in accordance with proper legal procedures by the relevant authorities, and its contents were seized for testing to determine the exact cause of the poisoning.
​The spokesperson added that the total number of cases that arrived or were transported to the hospital reached 138. Most of them received medical treatment and were discharged, while 28 individuals were admitted to hospitals and remain under medical care. Investigations are still ongoing as more cases continue to arrive at the hospitals.
