Amman — Axios reported, citing two informed sources, that U.S. President Donald Trump ordered the American military on Friday to hold off on any new strikes against Iran, breaking a streak of daily attacks that had run for nearly two weeks.
According to the outlet, Trump had approved strike plans each afternoon over the previous two weeks but withheld authorization for a similar plan presented Friday and instead ordered the military to hold fire (Iran International) . It remains unclear whether the pause is a one-day timeout or signals a broader shift in Washington's approach.
The two sources said the decision reflects Trump's desire to give diplomacy more room to work, along with his view that the current level of strikes has reached the limit of its effectiveness short of a full-scale military escalation.
Axios added that the U.S. military is still drawing up plans for a possible resumption of large-scale operations if Trump gives the order — but as of now, he has not directed the military to move in that direction.
Per Axios, Trump received a new strike plan on Friday but declined to give it the green light, ordering it not be carried out.
For context: this pause comes amid Oman-mediated talks that made progress toward a possible deal on reopening the Strait of Hormuz (Iran International) , and follows a period of sharp escalation, including a U.S. House vote earlier in the week to curb Trump's war powers over the Iran conflict.
