Amman — US President Donald Trump stated on Monday that while the Iranians claim they will control the Strait of Hormuz by force, it is currently under full control and blockade by the US Navy, or what some refer to as the "Steel Wall of the United States."
In a post on Truth Social, Trump described the Iranian leadership as "unbelievably duplicitous".
"They ask for a meeting—some might even say 'beg'—and talks begin with additional meetings scheduled for the near future," Trump wrote. "Then, openly and proudly, they claim they are not holding any discussions, that nothing is being discussed, and that they are only dealing with Oman."
He emphasized that "nothing gets through to Iran unless we want it to, and nothing will get through unless a Deal, or Total Surrender, is accomplished."
Trump also reiterated that Iran will never be allowed to acquire a nuclear weapon.
Trump had previously announced that negotiations with Tehran would commence Monday afternoon after he agreed to suspend planned military strikes conditional on reaching a fast-track agreement. However, he refrained from setting a strict deadline for reaching a deal.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One late Sunday, Trump noted: "Obviously, they don't want to be attacked. They knew the scale of the strike because they saw it taking shape. Right now, what we are doing is talking to them in the form of a negotiation. It begins tomorrow [Monday] afternoon." He did not provide further details regarding the venue or participating delegations.
In response, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei stated on Monday that Iran is not currently holding any talks with the United States, clarifying that discussions are taking place exclusively with Oman regarding the management and safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz.
Baqaei added that Tehran is collaborating with Muscat to establish a temporary safe navigation route through the waterway. However, he stressed that reaching an understanding with Oman is not enough to fully reopen the strait, as the situation will remain unchanged as long as American "aggression" persists.
Regarding reports of scheduled negotiations with Washington, the spokesperson confirmed that there are no plans to host an American delegation or send an Iranian delegation in "these days".
