Gulf Cooperation Council Secretary-General Jasem Mohammed Al-Budaiwi welcomed a UN Security Council statement condemning Houthi missile attacks on Saudi Arabia, calling on the international community to take a firm stance to hold the Houthis accountable.
Al-Budaiwi condemned, "in the strongest terms," the repeated Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia since July 13, describing them as a violation of Saudi sovereignty and a threat to its security, stability and territorial integrity. He also condemned attacks on commercial shipping since July 22, warning that threats to international maritime navigation represent a serious escalation endangering regional security and stability.
The GCC chief called on the international community to shoulder its responsibilities and take a firm stance to hold the Houthis accountable and halt the attacks "immediately and urgently," affirming the Gulf states' full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and support for the measures it is taking to protect its territory and the safety of its citizens and residents.
