Chinese Ambassador to Jordan, Guo Wei, stated that His Majesty King Abdullah II's visit to China constitutes an important milestone in the journey of friendship between the two countries, noting that both sides plan to sign a series of cooperation agreements and memorandums of understanding, as well as expand the scope of economic and developmental partnership.
In an article titled "Writing Together a New Chapter in the Strategic Partnership Between China and Jordan," published by the Chinese newspaper People's Daily, Guo added that His Majesty the King will hold official talks with the Chinese President, during which both sides will exchange views on bilateral relations as well as international and regional issues of mutual concern.
The ambassador pointed out that His Majesty the King is regarded as a friend of the Chinese people, noting that the current visit marks His Majesty's ninth to China since ascending to the throne. He highlighted that during the King's visit to China in 2015, the King and the Chinese President announced the elevation of Sino-Jordanian relations to the level of a strategic partnership.
He stated that the visit comes amid the ongoing complexity and fluid developments in the Middle East, noting that King Abdullah II is the first Arab leader to be received by China this year. He added that President Xi Jinping will work alongside His Majesty to provide strategic guidance to further deepen the strategic partnership between the two countries and maintain peace and stability in the region.
49 Years of Diplomatic Relations
Regarding political relations, Guo stated that mutual political trust between China and Jordan has continuously deepened over the 49 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties. He noted that both countries have consistently supported each other on issues concerning their core interests and major concerns, pointing to Jordan's commitment to the One-China principle.
He added that China supports Jordan in developing a developmental path suited to its national conditions, as well as in safeguarding its national sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity. China also supports the Hashemite Custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in occupied Jerusalem.
He explained that Jordan and China share aligned positions on international and regional issues, with both nations upholding the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, steadfastly supporting the just cause of the Palestinian people and the Arab nation, working to safeguard peace and security in the region, and joining forces in international humanitarian efforts.
China: Jordan's Largest Trading Partner in 2025
On the economic cooperation front, the ambassador stated that practical collaboration between Jordan and China has yielded fruitful results in recent years, noting that China became Jordan's "largest trading partner" in 2025.
According to Chinese statistics cited by Guo, the total bilateral trade volume reached "approximately $2.58 billion in the first quarter of the current year, recording a year-on-year growth exceeding 30%," which he described as reflecting "strong growth momentum."
He revealed that both sides plan to sign a series of cooperation agreements and MOUs, enhancing cooperation across trade, investment, energy, minerals, tourism, education, agriculture, and science and technology.
He added that both countries also look forward to expanding cooperation into emerging domains, including green development, the digital economy, artificial intelligence, and advanced manufacturing.
Furthermore, he noted that both sides will work to align the joint construction of the "Belt and Road" initiative with Jordan's Economic Modernization Vision, advancing together toward a new era of modernization.
Chinese Projects in Jordan
In the field of people-to-people relations, Guo stated that Chinese projects provided to Jordan—including water network upgrades and road developments aimed at improving citizens' living standards—stand as a testament to the journey of friendship between the peoples of both nations.
He noted that Chinese culture enjoys widespread popularity among Jordanians, while interest in learning the Chinese language continues to rise in Jordan. He explained that both sides will build upon the foundation provided by seven official Chinese language learning centers and two Confucius Institutes to achieve further expansion.
He concluded that both sides continue to make progress across universities, media, think tanks, culture, tourism, cinema, sister-city cooperation, and the facilitation of personnel movement.
He added that such cooperation will contribute to fostering more "ambassadors of Sino-Jordanian friendship" who will carry the torch of this friendship from generation to generation, while helping to broaden the reach and impact of cooperation between the two countries.
