The Turkish Presidency stated on Thursday that Ankara "will not fall into the trap" set by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Syria, following Israeli airstrikes targeting a military airport in northwestern Syria.
Director of Communications for the Turkish Presidency Burhanettin Duran stated, "We have enough experience not to fall into the trap of figures like Netanyahu, whose goal is to undermine peace and stability in our region."
Meanwhile, the Turkish Ministry of Defense confirmed on Thursday that Ankara will continue supporting Syria's efforts to develop its military infrastructure and capabilities. The ministry emphasized that no Turkish military delegation was present at the Syrian airbase prior to or during the Israeli airstrikes.
The Defense Ministry added that Turkey will resolutely maintain its efforts and contributions to safeguard Syria's sovereignty, territorial integrity, and long-term stability.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu previously stated that Tel Aviv conveyed a message warning Turkey against establishing a base in Syria, implicitly acknowledging responsibility for the airstrikes conducted the prior day. Additionally, Head of the Israeli Mossad Roman Gofman held a phone call with Syrian Foreign Minister As'ad Al-Shaibani last week to discuss the Turkish military presence in Syria.
