Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian called on Friday for an immediate end to the war with the United States while Tehran remains in a "position of strength and dignity," according to coverage by Middle East Eye.
Speaking during a meeting with medical professionals in Tehran, Pezeshkian asserted that concluding the war now is preferable given that global opinion acknowledges Iran's position, as reported by Channel NewsAsia. He defended the negotiated memorandum of understanding with Washington, describing it as a major accomplishment fully ratified by the Supreme National Security Council and emphasizing that no provision in the text indicates Iranian surrender, as detailed by Türkiye Today.
Pezeshkian's remarks coincide with Tehran outlining six conditions to reopen the Strait of Hormuz—including an end to military operations, lifting sanctions and the naval blockade, withdrawing US forces from surrounding areas, paying war reparations, and unfreezing Iranian assets. Washington previously reported that Tehran committed to allowing oil flow through the strait without imposing vessel transit fees during ongoing negotiations mediated by Oman.
The diplomatic effort follows the June 18 maritime navigation memorandum signed in Islamabad, which faced implementation delays over security disputes, leading to a brief resumption of US strikes and Iranian counter-strikes in July before talks resumed. Tehran warned that Washington's renewed naval blockade threatens the viability of the ongoing negotiations.
