A group of community college diploma graduates affected by the Higher Education Council's sudden decision to raise the minimum university "bridging" (tajseer) GPA requirement to 68 percent has issued urgent appeals to the government to reverse the policy.
The affected students described the decision as shocking and detrimental to their academic futures, arguing that it deprives thousands of diploma holders of the opportunity to pursue bachelor's degrees after years of effort.
The students further noted that the recent comprehensive examination (Al-Shamel) was excessively difficult, failing to consider student preparation levels or overall stress. This combination of strict exam conditions and higher entry thresholds resulted in widespread disqualification, thwarting many students' aspirations of higher education.
To address the grievance, the students demanded lowering the bridging GPA threshold to 65 percent for competitive seats and 60 percent for the parallel track, urging officials to implement fair solutions that protect their right to complete their university education.
They emphasized that the academic futures of thousands should not be derailed by abrupt policy shifts or daunting examinations, calling on decision-makers to hear their demands and grant them a fair opportunity to continue their education.
