Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that his country remains committed to mutual understanding and resolving disputes through negotiation, while asserting that Tehran will firmly resist mounting economic pressure. Pezeshkian emphasized that Iranian measures have prevented the United States from achieving its objectives through its current pressure campaign.
The remarks follow the Trump administration's expansion of secondary sanctions under "Operation Economic Outcast," aimed at penalizing global entities and nations maintaining commercial ties with Iran as the conflict approaches its sixth month. U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent unveiled what he termed an "Economic D-Day," issuing an ultimatum for nations to sever trade links with Tehran or risk losing access to the dollar-based financial system. Bessent stated that Washington is launching a global financial campaign to cut off all economic lifelines supporting the Iranian government.
In response, Tehran vowed to counter the expanded sanctions, expressing confidence that its primary trade partners will resist Washington's pressure campaign.
Concurrently, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Omani Foreign Minister Badr Al-Busaidi discussed a phased framework to establish a temporary joint maritime corridor through the Strait of Hormuz, alongside a joint mine-clearing initiative. A joint statement noted that technical negotiations continue toward a permanent agreement governing future strait management, navigation safety, and security protocols.
In Doha, Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani met with Araghchi to review regional developments and Omani-Iranian discussions, affirming Qatar's support for diplomatic efforts to secure freedom of navigation and achieve a sustainable peace agreement.
These diplomatic moves coincide with U.S. President Donald Trump's declaration that all naval mines in the international waters of the Strait of Hormuz have been cleared or detonated, alongside warnings against new deployments. The war broke out following a large-scale U.S.-Israeli strike on Iran on February 28, leading to an effective closure of the strait by Tehran and a counter-blockade of Iranian ports by the U.S.
